Texas Intermediate fell for a second day as investors weighed a possible easing
of economic stimulus in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer.
Futures
slid as much as 0.5 percent in New York. The Federal Reserve said it may pare $85
billion in monthly bond purchases “in the coming months” as the economy
improves, minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee’s last meeting released
yesterday show. U.S. crude supplies rose for a ninth week, according to a
government report.
WTI
for January delivery slid as much as 45 cents to $93.40 a barrel in electronic
trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, and was at $93.69 at 11:06 a.m.
Sydney time. The contract decreased 4 cents to $93.85 yesterday. The volume of
all futures traded was about 83 percent below the 100-day average. Front-month
prices are up 2 percent this year.
Brent
for January settlement increased $1.14, or 1.1 percent, to $108.06 a barrel on
the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange yesterday. The European benchmark
ended the session at a premium of $14.21 to WTI.
U.S.
crude inventories gained 375,000 barrels in the period ended Nov. 15, a report
from the Energy Information Administration showed. They were projected to
advance by 1 million, according to the median of 11 analyst estimates in a
Bloomberg News survey.
