Gold Holds Advance as Growth Concern Increases Demand for Haven

Gold held gains to extend the first monthly advance since August as concern that global growth may be faltering sent equity markets lower and boosted demand for haven assets.

Bullion for immediate delivery rose as much as 0.2 percent to $1,259.98 an ounce, and traded at $1,257.04 at 8:48 a.m. in Singapore. Gold climbed as much as 1.8 percent to $1,266.41 yesterday, the highest level since Jan. 30, as the MSCI All-Country World Index of equities dropped 1.6 percent.

Data yesterday showed that manufacturing from China to the U.S. and the U.K. slowed as a selloff in emerging-market stocks and currencies deepened. Bullion advanced 3.2 percent last month even as the U.S. Federal Reserve began to withdraw stimulus.

Investors may allocate 2 percent to 10 percent of their portfolio to gold in 2014, from the current level of 1 percent, as they diversify holdings, Juan Carlos Artigas, director of investment research at the World Gold Council, said yesterday.

Gold for April delivery lost 0.2 percent to $1,257.90 on the Comex, after gaining 1.6 percent yesterday, the most since Jan. 23. Assets in the SPDR Gold Trust, the biggest exchange-traded product backed by bullion, were unchanged for a second day yesterday after increasing for two days in the longest run of gains since December 2012.

Silver increased 0.1 percent to $19.3663 an ounce, rising for a third day. Palladium was at $702.93 an ounce from $702.50 yesterday, when prices retreated a 10th day in the longest run of losses since October 2001.

Platinum added 0.2 percent to $1,384.75 an ounce. The world’s largest platinum producers are reviewing a proposal on wages as negotiators seek to resolve a dispute with a South African union that has been on strike since Jan. 23.

Trigger Rally Dollar Gold Price Decline

At the end of the trading price of gold early this morning observed a significant decline . This precious metal commodity prices finally closed negative after failing to re- achieve the highest level in 5 weeks . Dollar rally that happened last night resulted in the erosion of demand for the precious metal .

The exchange rate of the dollar against its main rivals have increased and reached the highest position in the first week of the commencement of the meeting along with officials of the Fed . Meanwhile the prices of wholesale goods unexpectedly fell in September . This caused a decline in interest in gold as a means of hedging against inflation . While the price of crude oil is also a factor that eroded resulting terpukulnya gold prices .

The Fed last night negotiating session to start mementukan future monetary policy . Fed will announce tonight how monetary policy further . Expected results of the negotiations are still going to show that the Fed maintains program scale pemberlian monthly bond worth 85 billion dollars per month .

LLG spot price of gold at the end of trading this morning looked closed at 1344.95 dollars per troy ounce . LLG spot price of gold at the end of trading this morning posted a decline of 7.50 dollars compared to the previous closing .

Comex gold futures for December contract seems to have decreased by 0.5 percent and closed at 1345.50 dollars per troy ounce . Yesterday gold futures prices briefly rose to the position of 1361.80 dollars , the highest since September 20.

Analysts estimate that the spot gold price movements LLG still has the potential to rise even today will be limited . For a while the gold price is expected to move in the range of 1345 - 1360 dollars per troy ounce .

WTI Crude Fluctuates Before U.S. Industrial Production Data

West Texas Intermediate swung between gains and losses before U.S. economic data that may signal when the U.S. Federal Reserve will begin scaling back monetary stimulus in the world’s biggest crude consumer.
Futures fluctuated in New York after falling 2.9 percent last week, the most in five weeks. A raft of U.S. government data is due this week, including industrial production figures that are forecast to show output rose in September. Iraq’s crude exports last month dropped to 62.1 million barrels amid maintenance, according to an oil ministry spokesman.
WTI for December delivery was at $97.71 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down 14 cents at 12:55 p.m. Sydney time. The contract increased 0.8 percent to $97.85 on Oct. 25, trimming its weekly decline. The volume of all futures traded was about 36 percent below the 100-day average.
Brent for December settlement gained 27 cents to $107.20 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange. The European benchmark crude was at a premium of $9.49 to WTI futures, up from $9.08 on Oct. 25.
